Travel insurance
What's covered and what we recommend before you arrive in Iceland.
What LuxIceland covers
Every operator on our platform carries full liability and passenger insurance, so you are covered while on the tour for accidents caused by operator negligence or equipment failure. This is included in the price of every booking, no extra fee.
What you should insure yourself
We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy from your home country before flying to Iceland. A good policy covers things our operator insurance cannot, including:
- Trip cancellation or interruption due to illness, injury or family emergency.
- Lost, stolen or delayed luggage and personal belongings.
- Medical treatment and hospital stays in Iceland (healthcare is high quality but not free for visitors).
- Emergency medical evacuation, including helicopter rescue from remote areas.
- Missed flights, delays and weather-related travel disruption.
Adventure activity coverage
If you are booking glacier hiking, ice climbing, snowmobiling, ATV, super jeep or diving, double check that your policy explicitly covers adventure sports. Many standard policies exclude these activities or require an add-on. Read the fine print before you travel.
EU & UK travellers
Iceland is part of the EEA, so EU and UK visitors with a valid EHIC or GHIC card receive state-provided medical care on the same terms as Icelandic residents. This is a great baseline but it does not replace travel insurance for cancellations, evacuation or repatriation.
